Total Recoil, Arcade Shooter, Shoot Everything!

Shoot everything you can while playing the new arcade shooter game Total Recoil (by Eiconic Games). This (iPhone and iPad) dual stick shooter game is packed with missions, challenges, weapons, upgrades, boss battles — and more. Total Recoil reminds me of the movie “Apocalypse Now” — a trip of a movie, especially for me since I watched this movie with huge eyes at the ripe old age of 11. This game is not nearly as dark in nature as the movie, but like war, your goal is to shoot all enemies and everything thing that gets in your way. This game has excellent cartoon-like graphics, and the dual virtual joysticks remind me of playing arcade games of the past. After you attend boot camp (tutorial), you start out as a Private and work you way up the ranks by knocking off Challenges to earn stars. Each 3 star increment ups your rank and unlocks new missions in the Operations Room. If you’re not a high enough rank, a level is considered classified and you cannot play it until you rank up.

There are a large variety of weapons, items, and upgrades you can earn through shooting items and killing enemies. A little trick: clear all enemies out for each timed wave, this is the key to earning more coins. Also, pay attention to the challenges, they require specific actions to complete, and most are not overly difficult. Once you complete the required number of waves in areas like the Oil Rig and Jungle environments, you will face off with increasingly more aggressive Bosses. There are tanks, copters, giant guns,and multiples of these that you will have to survive through to complete each mission.

I had a very good time playing this game. I found the “action” to be perfectly balanced and the coin earnings are more than fair, especially in this world of aggressive in app purchase (IAP) revenue models. While the game is probably well priced to sell at $1.99, I would rather see this app selling for $0.99 due to the IAP model and the limited mission gameplay. But, Total Recoil is a well done dual stick shooter that is sure to provide a great outlet for anyone who wants to go wild and shoot everything up — virtually!
