There are oodles and boodles of iPhone chess apps in the iTunes App Store. Some are better than others of course. This review will look at Chess Elite by 99Games for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The guys at 99Games have packed a ton of features into a very slick but simple chess app for the iPhone. One of my absolute favorite features on new games (apps) is the ability to play games within a community and or the ability to share information through social networks. Chess Elite allows you to play others within an online community that is rather large. You can also play the computer (got my ass kicked), your contacts, a friend by pass and play, etc. Some simple awesome features are: show moves, playback (review) of game for analysis, unlimited undo (cheaters) and the newly added draw feature. CrazyMike is a simple, mostly neanderthal type individual with very little deep culture, so I cannot “deeply” and “conclusively” review this app based on the traditions of chess. But, from a fun aspect, which is what my “masters degree” is in I can pontificate. Chess Elite has potential for tremendous and addictive chess fun. Again, if you dig beating the crap out of others in online communities then this may be your app, if not try to beat the computer, I could not (but that is not saying much). The only downside I found in this app was the lack of community interaction with my requests challenging others in the community. The price is pretty consistent with the features, at $3.99 I don’t feel this price point is out of touch with the massive amount of features in the app. If your a chess junkie, groupie, whatever then you will want to check out Chess Elite.
