This installment of CrazyMikesapps iPhone Tips&Tricks will provide help with the mundane typing and dictionary functionality of the iPhone. There are not a lot of sexy features (some), but more or less just trying to give you the ins and outs of typing and dictionary use when you are typing on the iPhone.

Typing
*depending on the application you’re using, the intelligent keyboard may automatically suggest corrections as you type to help prevent mistyped words*

-Tap a text field (blank box/email), such as in a note or new contact, to bring up the keyboard
-Tap keys on keyboard
*use one finger or when you get more proficient, you can use 2 thumbs*
**As you type, each letter appears above your finger or thumb. If you touch the wrong key, slide your finger to the correct key. The letter is not entered until you release you’re finger or thumb from the key.

Type Uppercase-Tap the shift key (up arrow) before tapping a letter. Or press and hold the shift key, then slide to a letter.

Quickly Type a Period-Double-tap the space bar. (you can turn this feature on or off in settings>general>keyboard).

Turn Caps Lock on-Double-tap the shift key. The shift key turns blue, and all letters you type are uppercase. Tap the shift key again to turn cap locks off. ( you can turn this feature on or off in settings>general>keyboard).

Show numbers, punctuation, or symbols-Tap the number key (.?123 key). Tap the symbol (#+=) key to see additional punctuation symbols

Type letters or symbols that aren’t on the keyboard-Press and hold the related letter or symbol, then slide to choose a variation.

****Typing should be the same in Landscape Mode, however landscape mode does not work in all apps****

Dictionary
****For many languages, iPhone has dictionaries to help you type. The appropriate dictionary is activated automatically when you select a supported keyboard.****

iPhone uses the active dictionary to suggest corrections or complete the word you’re typing. You don’t need to interrupt your typing to accept the suggested word.

-Accept or reject dictionary suggestions-To reject the suggested word, finish typing the word as you want it, then tap the X to dismiss the suggestion before typing anything else. Each time you reject a suggestion for the same word, iPhone becomes more likely to accept your word.

-To use the suggested word-type a space, punctuation mark, or return character.

-To turn Auto-Correction on and off-Choose general settings>keyboard and turn Auto-Correction on or off. Auto-Correction is always turned on by default.

-Editing-An onscreen magnifying glass helps you position the insertion point for typing and editing text. You can select the text to cut, copy, and paste.

-Positioning the insertion point-Touch and hold to bring up the magnifying glass, then drag to position the insertion point.

Selecting text-Tap the insertion point to display the selection buttons. Tap select to select the adjacent word or tap Select All to select all text. When you’re typing you can also double-tap to select a word. In read-only documents, such as webpages, or email or text messages, you’ve received, touch and hold to select a word. (drag the grab points to select more or less text).
