The Easter Story For Kids, iOS App – Great Free Bible Story For Kids

iPad App Review for the Easter Story Kids App

One of the greatest stories every told is the Easter story. And now you and your family can enjoy a beautiful rendition of this biblical story on your iPhone or iPad when reading The Story of Easter StoryChimes (FREE) by Idea Den. This free iOS Universal Books app features an interesting Bible story for kids, quality artwork, great music, 2 reading modes, professional quality narration in 2 languages, highlighted text, 2 mini-games, and more.

Story of Easter StoryChimes (FREE) App

The Story of Easter StoryChimes app retells the biblical story of Jesus’ death and resurrection as it is presented in the New Testament Gospels found in the Bible. Although I’m not sure which Bible translation or Gospel book is being used for the direct character quotes, the storyline is true to the actual Bible events. Overall, there are 30 pages to read in this iPhone and iPad application, but this narrated story seems to go by in the blink of an eye.

Idea Den has done of great job of taking the traditional Easter story and condensing it into a short story for kids that is interesting and engaging while also making sure to focus on the most important parts of the Gospel story. This iOS Books app begins with Jesus and his disciples eating the Last Supper during Passover in Jerusalem, before the story quickly progresses to Judas’ betrayal, Jesus’ arrest, Peter’s denial, The Crucifixion, death, burial and ultimate Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

App Features

The Story of Easter StoryChimes (FREE) app does a really nice job of retelling this biblical story on the mobile device platform. Although you won’t find a lot of animations or interactive opportunities on the book pages, the overall reading experience is comfortable and soothing as the background music softly plays and the professional male narrator leads you and your kids through the exciting story as it unravels. As you listen to the story being told, you can follow along with the highlighted text, which changes from blue to red as each word is read aloud by the narrator.

However, if you prefer a more traditional reading experience, you also have the option to turn off the narration and read the book to your child or have your child practice reading it to you the old fashion way. Additional options include the choice to “flip” through pages using the turn-page animation or stick with the navigational arrows instead.

Easter Story App Review for the Storychimes App

This Easter Story for kids app has an excellent user interface with a lot of functionality, including the option to listen to the story in either English or Spanish. You can also choose to limit distractions by turning off the background audio/sounds, auto-play functionality, visible text, and narration. This kids book also comes with a page index that allows you to quickly navigate back and forth to any page in the story. And in addition to that, there is a bookmark feature (icon) that allows you to resume reading right where you left off last.

And to help reinforce the Bible story, at the end of this digital book you and your kids can play a 7 question flashcard game to test your memory of the events that took place in the story. With a quick tap on the question card, you can flip the question card over to reveal the correct answer. There is also a timed 20-card matching game that uses illustrated scenes from the story to complete matches in the quickest time possible.

Overall Thoughts About This Easter Story For Kids

I was really glad to find this digital book in the iTunes App Store while searching for a quality free Bible story for kids this Easter. And although I enjoyed reading this Easter story, there are a few minor oddities.

The first is the chiming sound that you’ll hear after each page is narrated, which is your signal to turn the page. This chiming is actually a signature “StoryChimes” feature added by the developer, but it may get a bit annoying for some people. The second is seen in the artwork of the male angel at the empty tomb. The Bible speaks of a man dressed in white, but the angel in this book looks a bit like the Statue of Liberty wearing a pointed crown (and dressed in white).

But aside from these very minor points, the overall quality of app content, presentation, and user experience found in The Story of Easter StoryChimes (FREE) app is hard to beat – especially for a free application.
