Flight Control (by Namco Bandai/Firemint) is the classic line-drawing game that puts you in charge of air-traffic control and has you guiding up to 10 different aircrafts in 5 different unique airfields. This game originally came out on the iOS platform and since then has become a classic casual game on just about every gaming platform available, as well as the Kindle Fire. Having played this on the iPhone, iPad, and Android, I thought we would give it another go on the Kindle Fire — it performed very well. The gameplay was smooth as butter without a hint of lagginess nor disappointment in the gameplay whatsoever.
The version I used was purchased from the Amazon App Store (has to be to be used on the Fire) for $2.99, features 5 airports each with their own unique quality of gameplay. The game concept is fun, but a bit boring in the beginning, but to alleviate that you can hit the speed up button on the bottom left, which auto-turns off when you have a near collision (probably for the best). But, if you notice things going slow again, tap it again to speed things up. After playing for a while, the action started to pick up and I managed to get 15 planes in the air at one time, which is a little challenging. My favorite airport is the snow-themed airport with the windsock. This is probably the most difficult location because there are 2 sets of runways, and you must change all your planes whenever one set of runways gets closed down.
Some things from Flight Control that I would like to see: online gameplay, more planes, more airfields, and possibly an updated version as well with completely different period graphics and game feel, but then again, it would no longer be the retro classic that it is. Watch the video below for a complete look at how Flight Control performs on the Kindle Fire. Check out our other Android app reviews. Crazy Mike
