The Christmas Ringtones and Sounds app brings 45 of “the most-downloaded sounds and ringtones from around the internet into one holiday application,” says the app developer. Not only does this free Christmas ringtones app deliver some of the most recognized holiday music, but does a great job of presenting it in an easy-to-use format with a festive ornament theme.

The Free Christmas Ringtones and Sounds app comes with 45 quality songs and sounds that you can use to customize the ringtone on your iPhone. You can also use the tones and sound effects from this iPhone Entertainment app as your text tone, voice mail alert, mail alert, calendar alert and reminder alerts.

What first caught my attention in this free Christmas ringtones app was the unique ornament buttons for each of the sounds and ringtones. Next is was the simple and intuitive user interface that was divided into 5 simple categories that run along the bottom navigation: Sounds 1, Sounds 2, Ringtones, Help, and More.

Behind each of these festive ornament graphics are quality sound effects and music. Actually, you’ll recognize many of these classic holiday favorites as standard versions heard in Christmas commercials, Holiday movies and more. Of course, there are plenty of oldtime favorites like “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night.” Overall, I’d classify the app’s music tones as leaning more towards the traditional side. You’ll hear music tones featuring singing choirs, instruments only, piano, big band, music box, fiddle and even a dash of “funk” thrown into the mix.

To hear a ringtone or sound, just tap on the bulb icon to activate playing. There are 21 tones to select from in the Sounds 1 category, which only includes music. Although I couldn’t read the full song titles, once I started listening to each ringtone I was immediately able to recognize them. There’s the nostalgic “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” “Little Town of Bethlehem,” “Deck the Halls,” “Drummer Boy,” and other holiday classics.

The Sounds 2 category has additional music tones but also includes some sound effects. Sound effects include:crackling, ringing church bells, the Salvation Army bell, and a couple versions of Santa’s “Ho, Ho, Ho.” I was impressed with the selection of quality music tones in this free ringtone app, but found the sound effects selection to be just good. The oddest tone for me was the “Silly Elf” which sounding more like a silly squirrel or chipmunk. And of course, it wouldn’t be Christmas without a humorous “Smelly” armpit/farting version of “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy,” which I’m sure many adolescent boys (or guys) will find entertaining.

The easiest way to get a quick view and listen of all 45 ringtones and sounds is to go to the Ringtones category. You’ll see the titles of all 45 Christmas songs and sounds and have an opportunity to preview them first. Unfortunately, there’s no way to get around Apple’s tedious process of downloading ringtones from iOS applications. To save any of your favorites, tap the title to save that tone as a file to your iPhone and then you’ll need to connect your device to your PC/Mac to sync your device to iTunes in order to finish downloading, along with some other steps to get the ringtone from the app onto your phone. However, the developer has taken the time to provide step by step instructions to help you.

When I looked at the iTunes review ratings, the negative ratings came from frustrated users having difficulty with the process of getting the ringtones from the app, to the computer, and then onto their iPhones. This isn’t necessarily the fault of the developer. When I tested out the whole “app to phone” process, it worked fine for me. Thanks to the this free Christmas Ringtones app, I can enjoy some of my favorite holiday tunes every time I hear my iPhone ring. And hopefully you can too after you download this free Christmas ringtones app.
