I’ve tested out a variety of iPhone apps while on my search to find some of the best Halloween wallpapers available this year. And so far, the Halloween Story app by AppDao strikes me as one that stands out a bit from the numerous copycat Halloween wallpaper apps in the iTunes App Store. Its user interface and variety of curated Halloween wallpapers seems more interesting, unique and compelling than the rest of the Halloween iPhone wallpapers apps that I’ve come across so far.
This iOS Entertainment app has a somewhat misleading title because it’s not really a Halloween story as its name implies, but it does tell a Halloween story in its own right using a variety of images that’ll help get you into the Halloween festivities.
As you browse through the app you’ll see familiar cartoon characters like Snoopy and Mickey, among others. There are sweet vintage images, anime, jack-o-lanterns, “Keep Calm” quotes and other Halloween greetings. There are also photos of average people in costumes, decorated homes and famous places such as the Disney theme park. You’ll see handmade items, holiday-themed food and much more on your visual tour.
The Halloween Story app images range from nostalgic and cute to creepy and scary, but overall there really isn’t much blood and gore in these Halloween wallpapers.
You can immediately view lots of Halloween wallpapers once you open up this iPhone app. Browse them using the preset 3×3 grid format or singularly, one by one. Or search and view any of these images using the simple subject categories to help you find what you’re looking for. There are 12 category titles for you to look through such as: Halloween, Disney, Decoration, and Handmade.
And as you’re browsing, you also have to option to test out images to see how they’ll look as your lock screen and home screen before going through the hassle of saving to your camera roll to set as your wallpaper. In this app, you can favorite, save, and share any of your selected images with others through email, Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr. In addition to that, all your app activity is automatically saved in your Personal profile as Browsed, Saved, Favorited, Shared, Uploaded, allowing you to go back and quickly view and track what you’ve already looked at.
Another thing I liked about this app was being able to view any image and see how many other people also previewed, favorited, and saved that same image. What I didn’t like was having ads to deal with in a paid app, even though they’re near the bottom of the screen and are somewhat inconspicuous. In addition to that, the Halloween-themed icons in the app’s navigation were a little confusing at first, but they definitely add a fun holiday flair.
Overall, I like the variety of content that this Halloween wallpapers app has to offer. For me, it’s the real life photos of everyday-type people embracing the traditional Halloween season as seen through images of costumes, decorations, greetings, holiday-themed food and more that bring the fun holiday festivities right to your iPhone.
