iTranslate Voice – Siri Wishes She Knew 31 Languages!

iTranslate Voice (iPhone app) is a robust speech-to-voice/text language translation app that is pretty darn accurate. I think just about everyone who doesn’t know a second language wants to learn at least one other. I know I would like to learn more Spanish since we live in Florida — it would be very handy here. iTranslate Voice actually puts the ability to communicate in 31 languages right in your pocket, and provides speech recognition functionality that was mostly accurate when speaking my native tongue and translating that into Spanish (United States).

I did try this with Russian and Korean, more difficult languages cutting and pasting the responses into Google Translates and Russian was pretty accurate. However, Korean is an unknown because I could not type the letters for this language into Google Translates. This app is able to recognize English pretty accurately and speak back (to you) the meaning in another supported language (23 voice-to-speech/text and 8 text-to-speech/text).

In my case Spanish was very accurate. You may also enter text through the keyboard by long holding on the far left microphone, which is the language you are translating from, while the microphone located on the right is the language you want to translate into. I did not figure this out intuitively and tried using the microphone on the left, which is represented with a national flag for the language of choice. I eventually figured this out, but being a rather experienced app tester, I found this very frustrating, maybe I am the only one — probably not. A funny thing is that there is a huge black blank screen above the 2 input microphones that would be a perfect place for an on demand in app video tutorial or info graphic that would explain the “how to” for this app.

A few practical and “real world” uses for the translated text is the voice function that allows you to communicate by having the app speak for you such as when in a foreign country or when communicating with someone in that language, and you can share the translation through email, text, or even on social networks. iTranslate Voice is a huge value at only $0.99, which is said to be for a limited time only, so I suggest you grab this useful app at this price — I do not see any others that have this type of sophistication at this price point.
