The See and Speak Chinese: Chinese New Year language learning app (by Tiny Red Wagon Studio) is a fun way to introduce kids (and maybe adults) to the Chinese language and customs. This language learning app showcases 15 different vocabulary words for some of the most common food and decorative items associated with this Chinese New Year holiday, which occurs between January and February of each year.
Kids will be presented with 15 real-life photographs of food and decorative items customary to the Chinese New Year celebration. They’ll see Chinese holiday images of dragons, dumplings, lanterns, red envelopes, firecrackers, noodles and more. In addition to seeing real photographs of traditional holiday items, kids will also have opportunity to hear the vocabulary word spoken in English and Chinese. The Chinese pronunciation is spoken by a native Chinese speaker and the word is displayed on the screen showing the traditional Chinese characters along with the pinyin characters.
Kids will have fun toggling between the Chinese and English translation using the cartoon boy and girl character icons. The native speaker for the Chinese translation is an authentic Chinese sounding woman and the English word translations are spoken by what sounds like a young American child. This simple Education app is a great casual introduction to Chinese making this language learning app good for young kids. However, the addition of simple one sentence explanations for each Chinese item would make this iPhone app even better. Considering that this Chinese language learning app is free and has no ads, there’s not much to not like. See and Speak Chinese: Chinese New Year is a quick, easy and fun way to introduce kids to Chinese customs, vocabulary and authentic pronunciation (and sounds) in a low stress format.
