Little Acorns – Groovy Platformer with Jazzy Squirrel

Little Acorns (by Chillingo) is a groovy casual game that features a jazzy squirrel trying to collect as many acorns as he can to take care of his family and to get some new duds throughout the 60 levels, 4 seasons and 3 years of gameplay. An indication of a great iPad game is one that sucks you into the game and has the ability to  transport you away from the everyday grind for a few brief moments — I found this in Little Acorns. While this game could be viewed as just another platform game in the iTunes App Store, I don’t believe it is, and for a few great reasons.

Namely, this game has interesting personality that is seen in the jazzy squirrel character that you get to customize through reaching achievements during the level gameplay, but more importantly, this game is fun and has some great physics puzzle gameplay that is seen in many other games, but all packed into one — such as traditional platform gaming where your squirrel has to collect acorns (as all squirrels do) by jumping up and down and running side to side. But as the game goes on, the platform becomes a little weird allowing your squirrel to fall through (at certain spots), pass through the platform at others, and fly through the air using a rope, which is where the real fun lies in this game. There are power-ups, obstacles, enemies (bugs), and other items to collect like fruit (goes well with acorns) throughout the game.

Another cool difference that sets this game apart from the others is the unique layout of the game levels in seasons, as well as years (cool idea), which is unique and people can identify with. Little Acorns also sports some groovy music that easily gets you into the game, making this a most enjoyable platform gamimg experience. Lastly, my favorite part of the game is at the end of each level where you can see your squirrel in his tree home with this family counting up the acorns — gotta love it.
