Mikey Shorts – Maximum Platform Fun On An iPad!

If you’re ready for maximum platform gaming fun, then you will love Mikey Shorts, an iPhone and iPad retro style platform game featuring 72 levels, 2 game modes and a slick control setup that will make you never want to put this game down! As a casual gamer guy who does not know every correct gaming term when I play an iPad game (nor do I care to know), what matters to me is that I have fun. That’s how I know and the developers have done an awesome job. This iOS Universal Games app is pure fun! You play as a normal everyday retro character called Mikey Shorts, who is freeing people (who are statues) and collecting coins as he makes his way through 72 overall levels in 2 game modes. The 6 unique environments range from a basic “Marioesque” game board to the Desert, Caves, Underwater, and more all providing a bunch of fun.

You run from left to right with Mikey jumping and ducking to make your way through each level (does not matter which game mode) as fast as possible to gain stars. Initially you will have to obtain 25 stars before you will be able to unlock Challenge game mode. There are twists in the plot, such as coins, you can gain all of these for bonus points as well as when you complete a level in a fast time, but at times you will find yourself doubling back to grab the coins, which of course slows your time down. Then there are the “Golden Shorts” (Mikey’s Golden Shorts are hidden in the walls of each Story Mode level), which will surely slow you down, but then again, you’re in control. Playing in Story mode if you do not finish in time you get no stars, but in Challenge mode you lose the level.

I had a blast playing Mikey Shorts on my iPad 3rd generation. The game played quickly, the graphics were crisp, and at times I felt like a professional gamer when I had a run where I simply tapped and ducked at the right time and Mikey breezed through the level. A fun part of this game are the disguises. There are hundreds if not thousands of potential combinations of Head, Face, and Eyes that will make Mikey Shorts look different as you play through all the levels over and over. In most games, I hate playing a level over, especially puzzle games because you already know how to get the increases points. However, in this game you will have a blast replaying levels trying to get all 3 stars in Story mode as well as Challenge game mode. As far as platform games go for the iPad, this is probably the best I have played — and such simplistic fun. The time is the real kicker to this game that makes it so much fun. Yes, the controls are slick, the environments are well done, and the levels are simple, yet not too simple, and the environment change adds for a good bit of change. Mikey Shorts gets the coveted 5 CrazyMikesapps heads for hitting the mark as an iOS Universal Games app.
