Ready for some “Reverse Tower Defense” gameplay? Monster Trouble Dark Side (by NuOxygen) turns the tables on tower defense games and lets you play as the attacking monsters taking out the defending villagers throughout plenty of strategy level gameplay. The original Monster Trouble is a Tower Defense game where you play as the defending villagers — trying to fend off the nasty monsters throughout the Medieval level gameplay. Now, it’s time for revenge and the monsters get to have their say. The monsters’ Talisman has been stolen by the now nasty humans, and you play as a variety of unscrupulous human-haters like Ogres, Trolls, Goblins, Wraiths and more (10 different monsters).

Your objective is to complete the level goals: be it destroy Tom’s farm or get your monsters from one side of the screen to the other. The trick is figuring out how to accomplish each level without letting all your monsters perish. I have played a lot of iOS games and this is definitely one of the tougher ones indeed. Thankfully, NuOxygen has provided 4 difficulty settings for this game ranging from Easy to Insane. Starting in Medium, I perished quickly — 2 to 3 times in a row. I quickly toggled on Easy instead and the game was manageable — and for those who want a good challenge, there is plenty of gameplay for your buck in this game. On each level you get a variety of monsters to send out from different monster nests to attack the village you’re tasked with defeating. The strategy at hand is to correctly determine from where to send which monster to complete your mission. The game plays very well, has luscious 3D graphics, an easy zoom in/zoom out function, and drag-to-see touch screen gestures to make this game an excellent gaming choice for anyone’s iPhone or iPad.

During my gameplay I especially enjoyed using the Trolls due to their rock throwing abilities and awesome spiked clubs, however, they are slow movers. The villagers are not push overs either, as I have already mentioned — one of the tougher artificial intelligence (AI) enemies I have encountered in an iOS game is alive in this game. NuOxygen has done a great job of reversing the same old TD game, now giving us a chance to give the monsters a voice. Pay attention to the sounds in this app, they are just as scrumptious as the awesome graphics — and again NuOxygen really paid attention to detail by adding just the right amount of dogs barking, laughing Goblins, burning wood and the like to please my ears along with my eyes. Grab this game while it is priced at only $3.99, as the original Monster Trouble HD currently sells for $4.99.
