Otterbox iPhone 5 Defender Series Case Accessory Review

Being “super users” of iPhone and Android smartphones (due to the many app video demos and app video reviews we conduct daily), we entrust all of our smartphone devices to one brand of rugged case, Otterbox Defender Series cases. The main reason for this is that these cases are well constructed, look good, and will protect the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy Nexus from a drop — typically in my case from around 3.5 feet. I really love the sleek design and thinness of both my tech devices, however, I have dropped an iPhone shattering the screen and it cost me $200 to get it fixed, and that iPhone eventually was returned for a new one. Had I had an Otterbox Defender Series case on that iPhone, it would not have suffered so traumatically from a 3.5 foot drop onto the pavement because the cases are specifically designed for this type of protection. They are built with a 2-piece resin plastic shell, then wrapped tightly in rubber, and if you choose to keep it there, there is even a protective screen cover for scratch resistance of the display screen.

The new iPhone 5 Otterbox Defender Series case is by far the best iPhone case Otterbox has ever made. While the inside resin plastic case has largely remained the same, the outer rubber membrane has been completely redesigned and it now fits much tighter, does not move around as much, and keeps the inside pieces solidly together. Previous versions of this same case line developed squeaks after use and the rubber would at times stretch from taking it on and off — never quite remaining nearly as snug as the first time it came out of the box. This newer design features a harder rubber, so hard that I had to read the instructions to get it off from the inner case (for the first time) because I did not want to break it (clearly shows my confusion in the video). The case has a huge cutout for the amped up iPhone 5 camera and they made a smart flip-down volume control flap, instead of the previous versions that had the counter intuitive flip-up flap, rendering your view of the volume switch much easier with the new flap.

Another reason I love Otterbox cases is that they work better for gaming on an iPhone. The larger case gives me more stability while playing any game on my iPhone, especially the larger iPhone 5. The new Otterbox iPhone 5 Defender Series case costs $49.95, which is really a good deal; there are also specialty cases you can get with designs for $59.95. If you are looking for a rugged case that will protect your iPhone 5 or any iPhone — this is a no brainer choice. For more App News & Rumors. Crazy Mike

Avoid OTTERBOX goto the fb page and read post by others goto there twitter and see how many times they are posting ” I’m sorry to hear please contact customer service so we can get you a new case” no for the main reason the OTTERBOX does not protect your phone it destroys it over time the debris that enter the case will leave your iphone looking like you have been tapping on the edges front and bad glass like you where tapping a sharp needle on your entire phone leaving permanant scaring to your iPhone the OTTERBOX only will save you from impact dust and debris will enter the case over time causing damage to your phone the rubber will stretch and wear down over time AVOID the OTTERBOX ! I’ve been warned

Scott, I know what your talking about and have seen some dust and debris under my case, but have personally never experienced any scratching. I will say that I immediately remove the protective screen, because this could definitely cause unintended scratches since the plastic cover is quite tough. I still love my Otterbox case, especially after smashing 1 iPhone screen and surviving a couple of other serious drops.

thank you for your opinion and comment.
