Good boxing games are hard to come by on the iOS or Google Play mobile platforms, but that all changes with Vivid Games’ release of Real Boxing. This awesome 3D boxing game sets the bar higher for this genre of game for touch devices by featuring quick fight, career, multi-player game modes, several mini-games, and a new V-Motion Control System. While the Revolutionary V-Motion Control System sounds way awesome, this feature is not quite ready for prime time. During our testing this component just didn’t pan out. Placing our iPad 3rd gen in a stand, not in a stand, holding it, (etc.) — none worked. But while it was in a stand, I did land a couple right hooks while feverishly punching the air, which brings me to the question — Who wants air motion controls on their iPad? Not me.

All that being said, Real Boxing is the very best iOS, Android OS, or any mobile OS boxing game, and an easy Top Rated App. I played this game using the touch controls, which unlike the V-Motion Control System, worked flawlessly and accurately. I battled my way through the Rooster Tournament with ease, but got held up in the Night of Champions Tournament. The difficulty and very real artificial intelligence (AI) of this game becomes much more apparent in this tournament, much more so than the first. In fact, I have tried 4x to win the first fight in the Night of Champions and have been K.O.’d each time. But fear not, you can head over to the Gym every 5th career fight and play 3 different mini-games to increase your strength, speed and stamina. You can also purchase money through in app purchase (IAP) to increase your character’s health settings, but this is not cheap.
A very important tip for anyone serious about buying or playing this game. Before you start to build your player’s statistics, do yourself a favor and READ THIS: select a boxer, then go to Options and select Reset Profile, once confirmed you will be able to change your boxer’s name and choose a country to play for. I did not do this, and in this version of the game once you start to increase a character’s wins, earnings, etc., you cannot change the character’s name. I did after I cut the App Video Review and lost all progress — but not a big deal, I will just replay the game.
Another awesome factor for this game is the multi-player game mode through Apple Game Center match gameplay. The connection time was super fast and the gameplay did not lag at all, this may differ depending on your WiFi speed. Real Boxing is as real as it gets for any boxing app in the iTunes App Store, and is a steal at only $4.99. Watch our Real Boxing iPad App Video Review for a look at how this game plays.
