RetailMeNot saves you money even you leave your house — without your coupons! Now the handy new coupon iPhone app called RetailMeNot Coupons (by RetailMeNot) holds a treasure trove of coupon discounts that can be used for in-store or on-line purchases — helping you save $$ at many of your favorite brand stores, restaurants and more. This application claims to provide “hundreds of thousands of online and in-store coupons,” which can be searched and browsed through easy categories, saved, and shared with others. This Lifestyle app was released in June of this year and received an update on November 08th, with new functionality to find stores near you, location-based coupons sent right to your iPhone while you’re shopping at (listed) malls, and alerts letting you know when your saved coupons are about to expire.
The thought of having a potential money saving coupon anytime and anywhere is quite thrilling, especially for all of us watching our budgets. This Lifestyle application has a nice and easy user interface, and makes it convenient to search most things. You can find brand store coupons using the search box or their pre-set categories for: Top Coupons, Popular Stores, Categories and Today’s Hot Deals. However, I discovered while using the search box that I could only search and find major stores and brand names, but not find mall or mall information from within the app. But there is a lot you can find using these categories: Top Coupons (you’ll see coupons for things like online and in-store savings, restaurants, zoo admissions, Honey Baked Ham, Hertz Rental cars, music stores, craft stores, and more), Popular Stores (which list 15 stores such as Best Buy, Walmart, JC Penney, and Papa Johns – to name a few), Categories (by Accessories, Automotive, Beauty, Books, Clothing, Electronics, Flowers, Food, Furniture, Gifts, Health, Home&Garden, Jewelry, Musical Instruments, Office Supplies, Party Supplies, Pets, Photography, Shoes, Sporting Goods, Toys, and Travel), or Today’s Hot Deals (which lists the offers about to expire).
With this many categories, you should be able to find something you want to save on, and if the stores don’t have in-store deals listed, many times you can shop these brands online instead. However, the category searches aren’t perfect and don’t always bring back exact results appropriate for its type, but overall RetailMeNot does a very good job. A nice feature I like about this app is that you can discover both online and in-store savings upfront (by toggling between the two), which may determine whether or not you really want to voyage out. Many of the online deals come with free shipping and there seem to be more online deals than usable in-store coupons overall — just so you know.
But there are plenty of things to shop for locally, and you can use the Find Nearby Stores feature to help you locate a store closest to you. The RetailMeNot coupon-saving functionality is very easy, and includes a great expiration notification feature that lets you know when your saved coupons are about to expire. I tested this with a Victoria’s Secret coupon yesterday and today got a notice that this coupon was going to expire in 24 hrs. How cool is that! Expiration dates are listed right on the front of all coupon offers and show in red if expired or due to expire. If you’re feeling generous you can always help your friends and family by sharing coupons through SMS, email, Facebook, and Twitter. One of the nicest things about this app is the ability to have the cashier scan your coupon right off your iPhone without having to dig out a manufacturer’s coupon from your purse. On a side note: Bed Bath and Beyond always took my expired printed coupons with no hassels.
One thing to point out is that although there are a ton of coupons for almost everything from all over the general globe, to cut down on some of the coupon “clutter,” you may want to adjust your Store, Mall, and Other Notification preferences in the Settings area (turn on/off) to include or exclude filters. By going into this area you can select only the brands and specific malls that you want coupons for. One thing I didn’t like (aside from not being able to search by Mall), is that the listed malls only show the mall name and not location/mall information — but a few do have the state listed behind the mall name. One bummer for me is that my nearest mall isn’t even listed.
Although RetailMeNot Coupons isn’t the end-all-be-all-app coupon app, it does offer many advantages: It’s Free, has a lot of potential savings across many popular and major brand stores (in-store or online), restaurants — and more – plus, you don’t have to worry about leaving your coupons at home anymore because with a quick draw of your iPhone — you’ll be saving $ everyday.
