Tampa 2012-Republican National Convention App

No matter what your political party affiliation may be (if any at all), it’s that time in life again — another presidential election year, which is fast approaching — so mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 6, 2012. The Republican National Convention is also quickly drawing to a close after a shaky start due to Hurricane Isaac, but for those who want to keep you up on the latest with the Republican National Convention, there is the iOS Universal app called Tampa 2012 (developed by AT&T Services, Inc.) to keep you in the know. Before anyone gets too annoyed that AT&T created a Republican application, just for the record, they have also created the Democratic National Convention application called DNC 2012, which has the same app content.

This iPhone and iPad News application has 3 main user navigation paths: 1) Attend, 2) Convention Without Walls, and 3) Tampa Bay. All of the 3 areas provide a host of information that is very relevant to the big RNC shindig that has been happening this week in Tampa, Florida, and which concludes tonight with Mitt Romney’s acceptance speech as the Republican Presidential candidate. The Attend navigation is for those attending the RNC and a daily schedule, a My Schedule area, a GOP Store to buy stuff, maps, shuttle information, as well as social media integration to share how your experience has been at the convention. Convention Without Walls is for those virtual attendees who want to watch the highlight videos, live audio and video coverage, as well as news, Politician Twitter feeds and more. Lastly, the Tampa Bay icon has just what you would expect Weather, News, other tabs, but there is a cool tech tab added, which is a QR Scavenger hunt game. RNC attendees who have this app can play a QR scavenger hunt scanning QR codes around Tampa at RNC locations in hopes of winning prizes — nice touch.

I was surprised to see that AT&T developed this app, but then again, maybe not. The quality of the app is very well done. There are a lot of hidden extras you will find in terms of social media integration and the ease of navigation is quite good. I found when tapping on the in app news links I stayed within the app, which I really liked. But, there is a Games tab in the Tampa Bay section that takes users out into some fairly lame AT&T Games apps, which does not really make sense when you look at the rest of the application. Overall, nice job and a nice way to stay on top of the political happenings for the Republican National Convention. Check out all our iPhone app reviews. Crazy Mike
