iPhone App Review
– The Blocks Cometh is not for those who are short tempered. It is one of those games that will have you grinding your teeth to beat your old high score. If you have ever played the PC flash version, you will know what I am talking about. The game takes a simple concept that is, jumping over blocks, destroying them, and dodging them and turns that into an addicting experience. The blocks of various shapes and sizes fall from the top of the screen and you have to maneuver your way to the top. This only gets harder as you progress through the game. The blocks fall faster, and the screen moves upward faster. (The screen is constantly moving upwards, which is what forces you to keep climbing.) You can double jump in the air, as well as push off of other blocks to jump higher (much like in League of Evil). There is even a character from League of Evil, so it is clear that the developers have somewhat teamed up. Some people have been complaining about the controls to the game, but personally I never felt that they were bad at all. They take a bit of getting used to, but after about five games, you should have a pretty good handle on them.
You may have seen another “The Blocks Cometh” game earlier in the AppStore a few months ago…that was not the real one, but rather a fraud game that a developer decided to replicate to make money. That app soon got pulled from the AppStore. But Halfbot is the true developer of the game, and there are no more copycats in the AppStore as of now.
There is unlock-able content in the game, which you can open through various tasks. One of the characters I have yet to unlock needs me to climb to 10,000m total. That might take a bit of work. Each character has its own strengths and weaknesses. My favorite at the moment is “Leaper”, and he is not very fast, but can jump and attack very well. Everyone has their favorite; it just depends on how you like to play.
Overall, I can definitely recommend this game for just about everyone, except those who frequently have the urge to throw a brick at their device. It is a great way to spend 30 seconds or 10 minutes. Check it out.
