When Apple introduced the video recording with direct upload to YouTube immediate visible media by the masses has been created. Think of the power of 40 million+ iphone users being “Johnny on the spot” at accidents, tornado damage, crime scenes, etc and having the power to put this up on YouTube in minutes. It is almost scary. Now the city of Boston is on board with Apple to use the picture email for city infrastructure problems. My hat is off to the City of Boston government for embracing the iPhone and being on the cutting edge of technology. 07/07/09, CM

City Of Boston To Unveil App For Reporting Municipal Complaints

The city of Boston, Massachusetts is getting ready to announce a new way for Bostonians to file municipal complaints like potholes, broken streetlights or graffiti-covered walls to the city authorities on the spot using their iPhones, allowing them to take and email pictures of the problem as they see it.
They’re calling the project, Citizen Connect, and it will be the first of it’s kind in the country. It is being created as an extension of Boston’s 24-hour hotline for the more tech-savy crowd.
“If I’m just walking along the sidewalk and I have a complaint – maybe a storm knocked downed a tree – I could take a photo and send it immediately,’’ said Christopher Loh, 28, a press assistant in the mayor’s office who helped come up with the idea for the program. “You don’t have to bumble around looking for a number to call. It’s right there in the palm of your hand.’’
