Unlock Your Mac Like an iPhone with Lock Screen 2

Lock Screen 2 is an app that advertises the ability to lock your Mac in a variety of ways with a look and feel that is so close to the iPhone, iPad, or iPod; you’d think this app were made by Apple employees themselves. However, iDevelop made this Mac app and after a little figuring out, you can start locking and unlocking your Mac like an iPhone. Before you start locking your Mac you must first make a passcode, you can do this in a couple different ways. First, you can do a keyboard passcode where you slide your finger in a certain pattern, a simple touchpad passcode, or a complex touchpad passcode that includes one, two, three, or four finger swipes and other keyboard commands to unlock the computer. Once you have your password set there are a variety of ways to lock your Mac. You can set Lock Screen 2 to automatically lock, be the main lock (requires no existing password on the computer), or you can go to the menubar and simply hit “lock” like I normally do. My personal favorite thing about this application is the ability for your computer to keep running a program while the screen is locked, for example, if you are downloading something large in iTunes and lock the screen, assuming the hardrive doesn’t turn off (using a utility like Caffeine), you can lock the screen and walk away. The download will continue and you don’t have to worry about anyone messing with you computer. Overall, I’d give this app a 4/5 head rating because although it is very useful, setting up a passcode can be confusing and it can be difficult to use at first. I would recommend it for anyone looking for a screen lock, or anyone who just likes the idea of sliding their keyboard to unlock the computer. Tswmcello
