The Flappy Bird Revolution has placed a focus on simple games that are super frustrating to beat. Entering onto the scene recently is Smacky Cars, another addicting game that is easy to play, but definitely hard to beat. This iOS Universal arcade game features simple tap-to-change-lanes gameplay, fun retro-pixelated graphics, and awesome sound effects!
The biggest difference between Flappy Bird and Smacky Cars is that Smacky Cars is not as impossible as Flappy Bird. Smacky Cars is a free game that provides short bursts of car dodging fun that can be a very exhilarating experience as you play.
Smacky Cars Overview
Smacky Cars is similar to old arcade racing games, but flipped, with the cars coming at you from the top down. Instead of racing cars, you are dodging cars of all shapes, colors, and sizes. You’ll have police cars, sports cars, vans and the like speed from the top of the game board down towards your sleek racing car. Your objective is to tap left or right, using the 3 road lanes to maneuver your car from being hit by another car, scoring 1 point for each car that successfully whizzes by you. And, yes, while simple by design, you will quickly find out that you need to pay attention while playing this fun, free casual game.
Contributing to the “fun” factor of this game are the retro pixelated graphics, retro sounds, and awesome car crashing/ pile-up sound effects each time you crash. My first few games were quick and educational. The cars come at you very fast, requiring players to have quick lightening-like reflexes to continuously tap to move your racing car out of the way of your eventual impending doom. Unlike Flappy Bird, which is mostly impossible, you can score a decent score playing Smacky Cars, but you will have to put forth some good effort.
The 2 main game screens are pretty basic. The home screen allows you to rate the app and see online scoreboards in Apple Game Center. The game completion screen lets you share your score a variety of ways or play again, which you will want to – again and again.
Smacky Car Gameplay
During my first few games I scored 5, 17, and even 25. But after playing for a few minutes, I scored a 105 points, earning myself a bronze medal. And if I could watch the gameplay back, I would see that I made moves that appear to be impossible, but actually happened in a split second before being hit. The amazing thing is, this happened way too many times to count and was a fun adrenaline rush. I amazed myself at how quick my reflexes were, and at one point during the game I found myself totally focused on the game and nothing else.
I have tried to duplicate my high score but I have not been able to do that just yet – but I am still trying. I know it is really cliche to say “this is a really addicting game,” but if there was a category for “Addictive Games” Smacky Cars would rightly have a place in that category.
Smacky Cars Free for iOS and Android
Smacky Cars is a free game for all iOS devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch) and Android devices. There are advertisements, but only on non-gaming screens. Another thing worth pointing out is that there are no in-app purchases. This game is a lot of fun to play and deserves a download for anyone looking for a fun pick-up-and-play casual game.
