FREE iPhone and iPad Olympics Game..Lackluster!

The 2012 Summer Olympics have started and what better way to get into the spirit than with a FREE iPhone and iPad Olympic game app? Well, the London 2012 – Official Mobile Game is a FREE iOS Universal Games app that has 9 events in 3 different game modes ranging from 100 meter dash to trap shooting. The gameplay takes advantage of the iOS technology with swipe, tap, accelerometer aiming, etc., and at times can be rather difficult to learn — but not completely impossible. Unfortunately, the game is slow loading in just about every aspect and this is a freemium game that has a variety of items that you can upgrade, purchase to increase your character’s abilities, as well as get a legend Olympic character.

However, this does not come cheap — you will need stars and stamina to continue playing this game, while stamina returns after 10 minutes, stars are earned and given with the original download, which the developer claims you will get a $1.99 value or 2000 stars in the free version and if you purchase the premium version London 2012 – Official Mobile Game (Premium) you will get a $5.50 value with 3,000 stars, 5 max stamina points, and EXP UPx2. Ironically, I was taken aback a bit when I searched for 2012 Olympic apps in the iTunes App Store only to discover that there are very few, and Apple’s highlight of the Olympics with apps only includes 6 applications — kind of startling. The Olympics have apparently lost their luster in the US as well as abroad — which is a shame.

I played this game for a bit and found the running to be somewhat tricky — but doable. I did enjoy the trap shooting, which was also difficult, but enjoyable. The 3 game modes are actually the difficulty levels and when you get done with training, see if you’re ready for the Olympics, but don’t be surprised if you have to either wait or fork out some cash to become a worthy competitor. Frankly, the game does not play well enough for me to spend any money through in app purchase. I could care less about buying shirts for my player and being forced to buy food to gain stamina does not appeal to me either. However, if you’re looking for some Olympic-spirited fun, check this game out or the premium version. What appears to be a lack of interest is truly sad — when I was a kid the Olympics were regarded in a much higher capacity than they are today. Check out all our iPhone app reviews. Crazy Mike
